In 2004, Dr. Banerjee received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Jadavpur University (Jadavpur, Kolkata, India), where [worked under the supervision of Professor Subrata Ghosh at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur, Kolkata, India] he worked on the synthesis of natural products using photochemical reaction on carbohydrate moiety as key step. From 2004 – 2006, his post-doctoral research on the synthesis of pactamycin, an antitymor antibiotic was carried out at University of Montreal, Canada with Professor Stephen Hanessian.
In 2006, he joined the Technology Development Centre-Custom Pharmaceutical Services at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd, Hyderabad, India. At Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory, he was involved in the process development of intermediates and APIs as well as polymorph studies of APIs. From 2007, he is working at Sapala Organics Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad, where he is engaged in the strategic planning, securing on time delivery of high quality materials, manufacture of high value low volume organic molecules, experimental design, optimization of synthesis and purification protocols on lab scale to kilo scale, including process chemistry. His specific interests include design, synthesis, and chemistry of novel carbohydrates, nucleosides, heterocyclic chemistry, photochemistry and application of modern synthetic tools in organic synthesis.
